Kent's Rob Croydon to Race Nurburgring 24 Hours

35 year old Meopham (Kent, UK) based British GT, Sportscar and Nascar driver Rob Croydon is set to debut in this weekends coveted Nurburgring 24 hours race.

The event that takes place in Germany's Eiffel mountains, will see over 210 racing cars battle their way around the legendary 14 mile long Nordschleife circuit. Every lap will see them use part of the Nurburgring's Formula 1 circuit and the teams will use the F1 pit lane for refuelling, tyre and driver changes. It is Germany's biggest race and over 300,000 spectators are expected.

Croydon, who is experienced in long distance races, will share his Honda Integra Type R with Martyn Spurrel and Chris Rimmer. Looking forward to the race, he commented "The Nurburgring 24 hours is a very popular race, and one that I have wanted to do for a long time. The race is moving up the order of merit in terms of 24 hour races, and this year there are a lot of DTM and GT stars here".

Regarding his chances he added "We will be going for a class win. The team won their class last year, but with a change in class structure it is going to be more difficult this year. However the car is very well prepared and if we are running well Sunday morning we will be in good shape. Although its my first time here, its not my first 24 hour race. I competed in the famous Rolex 24 hours a couple of years ago and finished in the top 20 with Freisinger Motorsport in their Porsche GT3R and have also done 24 Hours at Spa. With the Honda we won't have quite the power of the Porsche but I am really looking forward to the experience.

"I tested here recently and the circuit itself is awesome and throws up many challenges. There's not much room for error to be honest, it's very fast and most corners are blind with no run off areas, so it takes a lot of stamina and concentration every lap that you do. I am geared up for it and looking forward to seeing the chequered flag on Sunday afternoon!".

"I will then be seeing out the season in British GTs with RSR in their second N-GT TVR partnering Jonathon Coleman. I have worked with RSR for the last couple of seasons with their Radicals and came 3rd partnering Nigel Greensal in their Radical SR3 just 10 days ago at Castle Combe."

The Honda is prepared by Autosportif who are based in Bicester, England.

Qualifying begins Friday morning, and the race will start at 3pm on Saturday June 13th , finishing on Sunday, 24 hours later.
