Australians David Wall and his team mates, Barton Mawer and Damien Flack, have come home in an amazing 3rd position in a field of almost 80 cars in this weekend's 2008 Petronas Primax 3 Merdeka Millennium Endurance, (MME) in Malaysia.
The 12-hour race held at the Sepang Circuit, home of the Malaysia Formula 1 race, included some of Asia's top drivers.
Despite running a car older than the 08 spec Porsche RSR's that they were racing against, and dropping 15 minutes due to a mechanical failure during the race, the team fought hard to bring the car home in 3rd place.
David and the team went into the race aiming for a top 10 position so were understandably ecstatic about finishing on the podium in both their class and outright.
"I could not be happier with that result," said David Wall after the race.
"We were well down on the performance of the lead cars and we knew we would struggle against them, 3rd place is better than what we had hoped for!
"At the start of the race we took it a bit conservatively, letting them fight it out into the first corner.
"We sat in around 7th position for the first couple of hours before we worked our way into 3rd place by the 6 hour mark.
"A CB failure forced us into the pits to change the drive shaft which took around 15 minutes and dropped us back to 7th place, and around 6 laps down on 3rd place.
"From there we put our heads down and clawed our way back, making up the lost laps and taking back 3rd place.
"The team did an excellent job - Barton Mawer and Damien Flack did everything we asked of them and the car was bought home without a scratch on it."
David and Barton will now return home to Australia to continue to fight out the Carrera Cup Australia.
