- Class win in SP 3T with Subaru WRX STI tS
Victory for Carlo van Dam in Nürburgring 24 hours
Nürburg - Carlo van Dam has this weekend scored a dominant win in the prestigious Nürburgring 24 hour race held at the 25 kilometres long ‘Nordschleife’. Together with his team mates Marcel Engels, Toshihiro Yoshida and Kohta Sasaki, the Dutchman raced a WRX STI tS of the Subaru works team to victory in the this year closely fought SP 3T-class, finishing first ahead of two Audi’s.
SP 3T is a very competitive and closely fought class.
“A super race and a super result”, says Carlo, who competed for the third time in the now famous race at the old and notorious ‘Nordschleife’ of the Nürburgring. “We had no problems at all, nothing failed on the car and nobody made a mistake. The car we had this year was different and faster than the Subaru we raced last year; this new WRX was more stable, better in fast corners, easier to drive and more consistent. It is great that all the efforts Subaru put in this race has been rewarded by this win, especially given the disaster that hit Japan one day after we first tested the new car.”
“This race is getting bigger and more important to car manufacturers every year and that is something you notice. SP 3T is a very competitive and closely fought class. But all our stints and pit stops just went very well, so we have really won the race. And have done so with a car that is virtually identical than the road going version. More over, we finished 21st overall in a field of 200 entries, many of which race in classes for faster cars. So I am very happy with this result and I am very happy for Subaru as they have worked so hard on this project and deserve the win and the credits for it very much.”
