Strong Performance in 24H Dubai for G&A Racing
G&A Racing managed to score a podium finish in the A5 Class of the Dubai 24 Hours with their BMW Z4 Coupe GT4. After a perfect race, the BMW GT4 finished third in class behind some stronger opponents. No GT1, GT2, GT3 or GT4 classes in Dubai, but classes following the engine capacity. This meant that the G&A Racing BMW Z4 GT4 raced in class A5, for cars with an engine capacity between 3000 and 3500 cc. Given the development of many other cars in the A5 Class, the BMW was far from the fastest car. A strong, regular and intelligent race rewarded Guino Kenis, Michael De Keersmaecker and Dutchman Ricardo van der Ende finally with a podium spot.
Guino Kenis: "We have had a very intensive 2008 season. We competed successfully in the GT4 European Cup with both our BMW Z4 Coupe, we won the European Rallycross Cup with the BMW 120i and we won a race in the Belgian GT Championship with the Mosler MT900. All this would have been impossible without the help of my team and that's why we came to Dubai. I really wanted to thank the crew! The 24 Hours of Dubai is a very nice race, but having fun is an essential part of the game here. But I also wanted to show what a 'little' GT4 is capable of. We drove a genuine GT4, the only one in the race as our 'GT4' opponents were or not as yet homologated or a hybrid between GT3 and GT4."
"Our strategy proved to be very good. We drove the car without useless attacking, respecting a regular pace. Our target was to finish as high as possible, with, if possible, a podium in class. And this we did. We are of course very satisfied with the result."
Ricardo van der Ende proved to be a very valuable member of the team. The Dutchman is a former European and World Champion karting, he won the Formula Ford Festival and took the spoils in the Dutch BMW 130i Cup.
"We proved that the BMW Z4 Coupe GT4 is fast and reliable, so this car is a perfect match for the GT4 championship - with both its short and long races -, but also for many other sprint or endurance championships", a happy Guino Kenis explained.
In 2009 G&A will try to renew its title in the European Rallycross Cup with De Keersmaecker and the GT4 European Cup will also be very important. Other possibilities are the Belgian GT Championship, the Dunlop Sport Maxx Endurance Cup, the Langstreckenpokal.
