TCR WITHIN TOUCHING DISTANCE OF NURBURGRING NORDSCHLEIFE WIN
Wednesbury's Total Control Racing took on the incredible demands of the legendary Nuburgring Nordschleife circuit in Germany last Friday, 22nd May, and came within a whisker of claiming a famous victory with ELF Renault Clio Cup regular Alex MacDowall.
Taking part in the support race for the weekend's ADAC Zurich Nurburgring 24 Hour endurance encounter, TCR enjoyed a fantastic run with 18-year-old MacDowall finishing in second place, right on the tail of the race winner.
Jonathan Ridley-Holloway, who contested the 2008 ELF Renault Clio Cup with TCR, made a welcome return to the team and secured an excellent fourth place while Alex's father Ray MacDowall made it three TCR Clios in the top six with an equally impressive display.
Commenting on the outing, team boss Lee Brookes said: "It was a fantastic opportunity to race on the Nordschleife for all three drivers and Alex did a fantastic job to finish second, so close to the win as well. Jonathan did a great job too by finishing fourth, especially as he hasn't raced since the end of last season, and to make it three cars in the top six with Ray capped off a brilliant effort."
TCR's attention now turns to the latest rounds of the ELF Renault Clio Cup and Michelin Ginetta G50 Cup at Oulton Park Island Circuit in Cheshire this weekend, 30th/31st May, where the team will be aiming to continue its tremendous start to the season in both championships.
Qualifying for the 10th and 11th rounds of the G50 Cup will take place at 11.30 on Saturday, 30th May, with Clio Cup qualifying for rounds seven and eight of that championship following straight after at 12.00. Both categories will also have a race on Saturday with Ginetta action getting underway at 16.30 and the first Clio Cup encounter following at 17.10.
On Sunday, 31st May, round 11 of the G50 Cup is timetabled to get underway at 15.10 with round eight of the Clio Cup scheduled to begin at 15.50 -- both of the Sunday races will be screened live on Freeview, cable and digital satellite channel ITV4.
