UAE24HRS.COM TEAM SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETES 24HR RACE
UAE24hrs.com, a Dubai-based motor sport organization, announces that they have successfully completed the Toyo Tires 24 hour race at the Dubai Autodrome. Taking part in the race were no less than 90 teams from 17 countries. In 2008, the UAE24hrs.com team was the first one to be representing the entire United Arab Emirates with all drivers being Emirati. The race started at 2 pm on Friday January 11, 2008, and ran for 24 hours. For the UAE24hrs.com team, the drivers were Mohammed Al-Abdooli, Mohammad Al-Falasi, Khalid Al-Mutawaa, and Omran Al-Owais.
Mohammad Al-Falasi, the Team Captain of the UAE24hrs.com team said, "This has gone way beyond our wildest expectations. Not only did we actually finish the twenty-four hours, we did it in a very good way, finishing number 55. That's to the credit of everyone who has worked so hard at this. We're proud of the team and our accomplishment and look forward to the future with renewed passion."
With the Toyo Tire 24hr race being a competition of endurance as much as it is of driving skills, cars as well as drivers were put to severe tests and it was only the teams with the best working combination of drivers, car, mechanics, and more that completed the race. Drivers took turns in approximately two-hour shifts and managed to finish in 55th place, a considerable improvement from their starting position of 85. In total the team finished 375 laps.
Omran Al-Owais, one of the drivers in the UAE24hrs.com Team, said, "This is a tremendous learning opportunity for us. We've taken everything in and we're going to apply that when we start preparing for future races. I'm sure we'll enter again next year and we'll be even more competitive then."
