Tomas Enge Estoril Michelin tyre test

Once Tomas Enge had finished his autumn racing programme, he was requested by Aston Martin Racing to attend the official Michelin Tyre test in Estoril, Portugal. He was one of many top drivers who attended this test. Tomas drove the factory Aston Martin DBR9 from the 24h Le Mans (starting number 007) at Estoril. Right after Portugal he travelled to the English circuit Snetterton where he assisted Aston Martin in their part of the McLaren Autosport Awards 2008.

Moving bounds of black magic in Portugal

As a factory pilot of the Aston Martin Racing Team, Tomas took turns in "Bond's DBR9" with Antonio Garcia and Darren Turner in Estoril. Their task was to assist Michelin in developing new racing tyres. Tomas drove approximately 250 laps.

"I like this job very much," says Tomas. "It must be an honour for every racer to take a part in the development of new tyres of a prestigious producer. We all know what a so called "black magic" means. To have the correct tyres, plays a crucial role on the track.

McLaren Young Driver Autosport Awards 2008

Tomas is taking on another role of a professional pilot at Snetterton in the UK. He has been chosen to set a base time time for young drivers who compete in the respected McLaren Young Driver Autosport Awards 2008. He set the baseline lap with the Aston Martin V8 Vantage. The task for the contestants of The McLaren Autosport BRDC Young Driver of the Year was to get close to the value which the Czech pilot had assessed.

"And not only this," says Tomas. "The six chosen young drivers also drive Mercedes AMG DTM and F3cars. All cars have small cameras. The referees, including my team colleague Darren Turner review the expertiseof a whole range of things, incl. videos out of cars. It's a pleasant experience for me, also, because I get to meet a lot of people from the same ilk whom I'm always glad to see."
