Skoda Charouz scored points in Belgium

Big bad luck stroke the Czech team Skoda Charouz Racing -- Lola /Judd in the fourth race of the Le Mans Series. All hopes were dashed by Jonathan Cochet immediately after the start at Spa Francorchamps. The French driver hit the Czech car with StefanMuecke behind the wheel under braking to the first corner. The German driver started the race from the third palce and as fastest among petrol cars. The rest of the race was very difficult but the team scored another points at the end.

The rear end of the car was significantly damaged after the hit and the biggest problem was caused by the fact that both rear tyres blew up. The young driver from Berlin did not give up and slowly went to the pits. Unfortunately, he had to run around the whole track, which is very long. It was time to show mechanics skills when he arrived. It did not take the whole 30 minutes and the Lola was ready. Muecke started hunt for points and the team finally finished 7th in the LMP1 and 25th overall.

Both Muecke and twenty years old Jan Charouz did a great job. They were quick and consistent and set the fastest lap among petrol cars. The race was again full of drama. There were rain showers during the six hours and safety car had to be called five times. Unfortunately, one of the reasons for the SC was Jarek Janis's hard crash. He lost control of is Spyker at Eau Rouge after one of his tyres had exploded.

Stefan Mucke: "It is a great shame for our team. There are no doubts about both our speed and reliability but it is for nothing when we went to the back without our fault. Obviously, I did not expect the hit. I even do not know who ran into our car. Immediately after the accident I thought no problem and I should be easily able to cruise to the pits. However, I soon realized that it would not be that easy. Both rear tyres were gone and I had to drive on the rims only. It was not only difficult but also very, very slow. The team repaired the car and I went to try it. The car was fortunately okay. Together with Jan we did our best in the rest of the 1000 km race."

Jan Charouz: "I am, quite understandably, angry. As a racer you are never happy with such things. I am extremely disappointed because both our speed and reliability are exceptional and we could have been second at least, maybe even a win was possible. The winning Peugeot had some troubles and was not as quick as in previous races. However, forget about if. We just collected bad luck and I hope that we will have more reasons to smile next time."

Antonin Charouz: "I can hardly remember such unlucky weekend. Firstly, Vaclav Pech crashed out with Mitsubishi Lancer Evo IX at Prachatice (Czech rally), I crashed on the oil, which leaked on the track after an engine problem on the car of my team mate Vaclav Nimc, at Piestany afterwards, the day finished with the first corner hit from behind at Spa and Jarek crashed at the same track. Fortunately, no one was hurt. However, the damages on the cars are quite big. I was at least happy that both Stefan and Jan confirmed both their and team qualities, there is nothing you can do against a hit from behind."
