MG Lola EX264 set for Debut Race
The Spa 1000km, taking place this coming weekend (16/17 April), will be the debut outing for the MG Lola EX264 in the Le Mans Endurance Series. As in 2004 the lead drivers for the team will be Mike Newton and Tommy Erdos, with a third driver joining for the 24 Heures du Mans. The RML run team will once again be backed by the AD Group of companies including Dedicated Micros.
The team recently took part in a 24 hour test in Paul Ricard, France, as part of it's preparations for the 2005 season. Team Manager Phil Barker commented, "Although we had a few problems during the test the car and team performed well and we believe we are well prepared for the first event in Spa".
Driver Mike Newton is also looking forward to the first race, he commented, "The MG showed a lot of promise during testing and was competitive against the other LMP2 cars at Paul Ricard. I am very excited about this weekend's race."
Although recent developments within the MG Rover Group may result in their input ceasing we would like to convey that although this support has been useful it will not affect the MG Lola EX264 LMES programme in any way.
On Tuesday the team will complete a shakedown for the event at a UK circuit before departing for Belgium.
The entire Le Mans Endurance Series will be screened by the satellite station Motors TV.
