Silverstone 1000kms: Finish on a high note!
The Team ORECA-Matmut-AIM is determined to finish on the podium on its last appearance on the European scene.
The Team ORECA-Matmut-AIM will be back racing in the Le Mans Series in the Silverstone 1000kms, the final round of the championship. The Signes-based outfit, which finished third in Barcelona and in the Algarve, is out to score its third podium of the season. Only one ORECA 01 will be entered for the English race. The second car has already been sent off to Atlanta in the United States where the team will finish the 2009 season with the Petit Le Mans event.
Team regulars Olivier Panis and Nicolas Lapierre, who finished fifth in this year's Le Mans 24 Hours with the help of Soheil Ayari, will defend the Team ORECA-Matmut-AIM's colours. The two drivers have been among the front-runners since the start of the championship. Nicolas scored pole in Portimao while Olivier set the quickest lap in the race proving the out- and-out speed of the French duo. At Silverstone, which is a real drivers' circuit, they will be aiming for their first podium finish of the year.
They can count on an ORECA that has received several evolutions during the summer to achieve this. "For this race, we've got a few new aerodynamic tweaks," says David Floury, the technical director. "We've also done some work on the rear of the car where we've still got potential. We're hoping to move up another step in terms of pure performance."
The Team ORECA-Matmut-AIM will tackle the final round with high hopes, as the Silverstone circuit is one where an excellent chassis plays a crucial role when stringing together famous corners like Maggots-Beckets-Chapel etc. The French team is determined to take the fight to Aston Martin on the latter's home turf.
Practice starts on Friday 11th September with qualifying on Saturday 12th and the 1000-km race begins on Sunday 13th September at 11h35.
