Spyker Squadron LMS Silverstone 1000km preview
Spyker Squadron will compete this weekend in the 1000km of Silverstone, the last European round of the Le Mans Series before the series heads for the grand finale in South-America. Two Spyker C8 Spyder GT2R’s will appear at the start: the Spyker factory car carrying number 85 and the factory backed Swiss privateer team ‘Speedy Racing’ of Alex Pesci with start number 94.
Speedy Racing regulars Jonny Kane (GBR), Andrea Chiesa (SUI) and Andrea Belicchi (ITA) will drive the blue and silver Speedy Racing car while in the factory car we find two new drivers. Peter Dumbreck (GBR) and Mike Hezemans (NLD) will replace Jarek Janis (CZE) and Peter Kox (NLD). Squadron regular driver Jarek Janis was advised by doctors to rest for at least a month after his shunt at Spa-Francorchamps caused by a tire failure. Peter Kox will drive the Reiter Lamborghini this weekend in the German ADAC GT Masters.
Peter van Erp, director Spyker Squadron: “It is very sad for Jarek, but also for the team, that he cannot drive the car this weekend. His doctors advised absolute rest to ensure a full recovery from his injured backbone caused by the accident at Spa. With Peter Kox we have made agreements as early as February. Peter is also driving for Aston Martin and Reiter Engineering and for that reason Sandor van Es replaced him at Valencia. For this race we made the agreement that he would drive wherever he had the best chance to end high in the championship. He currently ranks second overall in the ADAC GT Masters and with three races to go he is still in the running to win the drivers championship.
I am very happy that we have Mike Hezemans and Peter Dumbreck behind the wheel this weekend. Earlier this year Mike drove the C8 in the 24 Hours of Le Mans and we know Peter very well from last year when he drove Le Mans, Donington, Jarama and Dubai with the Spyker”.
The race starts this Sunday at 12:00 (GMT) and can be seen live in Europe via MotorsTV.
