Hancock takes fourth for Aston at Silverstone 1000kms
Aston Martin Racing factory driver Sam Hancock ended the 2010 Le Mans Series season with fourth place overall and best of the petrol-powered cars at the Silverstone 1000kms.
With Hancock's Le Mans 24 Hours co-driver Juan Barazi sidelined through illness on race day, Sam shared the iconic British marque's LMP1 prototype with fellow factory driver Stefan Muecke.
Having qualified the car in sixth place on Saturday, both drivers produced fast, error-free stints in the five-hour race, while the car suffered no technical problems on its way to a comfortable fourth place behind three of the diesel-powered works Peugeots and Audis.
Sam Hancock: "It would have been nice to have sneaked onto the podium, but fourth is a good result and probably the best we could have hoped for against the diesels, which still had a big advantage here.
"Stefan was the perfect team mate and drove a stellar race, while the car was absolutely faultless, so congratulations to all the team. I'd like to thank all the guys and girls at Aston Martin Racing for their hard work this year, they're such a great bunch of people and have all made me feel very welcome since I joined at Le Mans. It's a shame that this season has come to an end so soon!"
