A brilliant Miguel Pais do Amaral secures second consecutive pole position at Nurburgring

Miguel Pais do Amaral and teammate, France's Olivier Pla, today achieved an excellent time in the qualification for the 1,000 Km race at Nurburgring in the LMP2 category, at the wheel of Portugal's Quifel ASM Team Ginetta-Zytek 09S, securing a pole position in the Le Mans Series Championship race due to take place tomorrow on the famous German track. The point awarded to them for the pole position boosts their leading position as the team now has a total of 22 points.

After securing pole position and a victory in the previous race, at Portimão, the Quifel ASM Team has once again beaten the competition at Nurburgring by setting the best lap time of 1.45.158 m., leaving all of its most direct competitors over a second behind and even beat some cars in the higher class (LMP1), such as the Lola Aston Martin, one of the drivers of which is Portugal's Miguel Ramos.

"We are very happy and proud of the work carried out by the whole team in preparing and driving the car," said Antonio Simões, director of the Quifel ASM Team, who did not hide his hope that the superiority of the Ginetta-Zytek 09S would be proven tomorrow. "We want to win in order to reach the last race, at Silverstone, in a privileged position to win the championship," he added.

Although Miguel Pais do Amaral and Olivier Pla may already become champions tomorrow, Antonio Simões said that that would be difficult and he preferred to keep the team focused on the car's performance for the final race.

The 1,000 Km race at Nurburgring is due to take place tomorrow, Sunday, starting at 12.30 pm, and will be partially broadcast on the Eurosport channel.
