Keasbey, NJ – Wednesday, April 10, 2013 – Bayshore Racing ambassadors Frankie Montecalvo and Gunnar Jeannette are launching their 2013 attack on the international motorsports world beginning this weekend for UK squad Ram Racing at the Three Hours of Silverstone, the season opening race of the European Le Mans Series (ELMS).
The American racing duo Montecalvo and Jeannette will compete in the No. 53 Ram Racing Ferrari 458 Italia in the LM GTE class on April 13, and during the other four races on the ELMS schedule later this year.
Montecalvo is making his Silverstone debut this weekend, while Jeannette has previous experience and success at the 3.667-mile, 18-turn circuit. Jeannette won at Silverstone in the older track configuration.
The Three Hours of Silverstone endurance race takes place at the “Home of British Motor Racing.” Built on the World World II Royal Air Force Bomber station, the circuit has gone through various track configurations over the years and has hosted countless forms of motorsports including Formula 1, FIA-WEC and the ELMS. Silverstone was actually the home of the first ever Formula 1 World Championship race in 1950.
Montecalvo and Jeannette have been long-time teammates and co-drivers. Originally teaming up for Multimatic Motorsports aboard a Continental Tires Series Ford Mustang in 2010, the duo also were part of CORE autosport’s successful 2011 American Le Mans Series campaign – Jeannette clinching the driver’s championship with Ricardo Gonzalez and Montecalvo finishing second with team owner Jon Bennett.
The five-round European Le Mans Series begins with Silverstone this weekend. The 2013 ELMS schedule includes a series of past and present Formula 1 venues in Italy (Imola), Austria (Red Bull Ring), Hungary (Hungaronring) and France (Paul Ricard). Ram Racing’s second Ferrari will be driven by Brit Johnny Mowlem and Irishman, Matt Griffin.
The compact format of the series enables Montecalvo to compete for Ram Racing in the ELMS and Multimatic Motorsport in GRAND-AM Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge.
The duo will first practice the No. 53 Ferrari at the 3.667-mile, 18-turn circuit on Friday, April 12. Qualifying is scheduled for Saturday morning. Green flag for the Three Hours of Silverstone is on Saturday, April 13 at 10am. (ET)
