Shock after test at the Lausitzring
The only German competitors in the LMP2 class are forced to start their preparations for 2008 earlier than expected, after a fire completely destroyed their Kruse Pescarolo V8 LMP2 car. Following last week's tests at the Lausitzring Kruse Motorsport's truck had just stopped at a petrol station when team members noticed smoke coming from the trailer.
They immediately moved the truck away from the petrol station and having opened up the trailer, team members tried unsuccessfully to put the fire out using handheld extinguishers. The firefighters arrived but unfortunately the race car and the trailer were completely destroyed before they were able to put out the flames.
"It is just a shock for our team", said team manager Kai Kruse "and the only good news is that our number one mechanic Walter Ohlert, who had been sent to hospital with minor smoke intoxication has recovered completely. We are now going to start our preparations for 2008 and apart from that we are also considering competing in some endurance races with our BMW Z4 this season."
All the leading race car manufacturers in the LMP2 class including Zytek and Lola are in contact with the management of Kruse Motorsport aiming to get on top of their shopping list.
To show their strong commitment to the Le Mans Series Kruse Motorsport will be present to host some of their partners and guests at the final European event at Silverstone.
