Horag-Lista Finishes on the Podium At Rainy LMES Season Finale in Istanbul

ISTANBUL, Turkey, Nov. 13 - Horag-Lista Racing returned to the podium in the Le Mans Endurance Series (LMES) season finale Sunday in Istanbul, Turkey. Drivers Didier Theys of Scottsdale, Ariz. and Thed Bjork of Orebro, Sweden finished third in the LMP2 class in the 1,000-kilometer/six-hour event with their Michelin-shod Horag-Lista Lola B05/40 Judd No. 27.

Despite only running four of the five LMES races this year, the team still ended up fourth in the final LMP2 point standings for 2005 out of 13 teams. It was victorious at the Nurburgring in September.

Theys qualified fourth in class on Saturday but he had to start at the rear of the 34-car field on Sunday due to a technical infraction. In the end that didn't matter, as rain made the conditions very challenging for all.

"It rained like crazy for six hours; the conditions were very difficult," Theys said afterwards. "There was so much water on the course, everybody was spinning on the straightaway, including us. But neither Thed nor I lost many positions when we spun, and the car is in one piece. Everybody had a spin; even the winner.

"We were second in class with about 15 minutes to go," Theys reported. "We were about 27 seconds behind, and we were catching them. But we didn't have enough grip at the end. We were second until about the last 10 minutes of the race, and we ended up third.

"The team did a wonderful job," he added. "We had to change the engine after the practice session Saturday morning, but besides that the car was perfect for three days."

Theys liked the 5.378-kilometer road course. "The track was interesting," he said. "It's a brand-new Formula One track, and it's quite enjoyable to drive."
