Zytek Wins On Home Ground

Greaves Motorsport just one point from LMS championship

An impressive fourth victory of the season fell this weekend to the Zytek-Nissan Z11SN of Le Mans LMP2 winner Greaves Motorsport. Just once this year has the team failed to finish on the top position of the podium and, following today’s Autosport Six Hours of Silverstone, it needs a mere point from the final round of the Le Mans Series to win the championship.

Victory in the LMP2 class at the British manufacturer’s home race, fourth round of the LMS, went to the Le Mans winning trio of Karim Ojjeh, Tom Kimber-Smith and Oliver Lombard by over a lap. “The car ran faultlessly; yet again we had no issues,” observed Tom who gave notice of intent with a storming start into the lead right at the start of the race. “We have a proven formula,” added Karim. The team now moves on to Estoril, Portugal in two week’s time for the championship decider.

The sole Hybrid LMP1 car at the event, the newly developed Zytek 09SH fitted with Zytek’s revolutionary KERS, was unfortunately unable to start the race. An accident during Free Practice 3, resulting from the driver running wide at Vale on his first flying lap, caused extensive damage to the car, including the rupturing of a fuel line, the resulting fire left the car in a state that could not be repaired in time for qualifying. Zytek’s engineers were encouraged that the hybrid safety systems, operated perfectly as expected, protecting the car, drivers and marshals from any risk. The hybrid system had been performing superbly during Friday practice.

The MIK Corse/ GV Racing Team now has a major job to rebuild the car but is excited about the potential of the system for future events. The team has announced that they intend to race the hybrid system in the Chinese race in the ILMC at Zhuhai.
