Team Bruichladdich: aiming for the top 3!
The fourth round of the 2010 Le Mans Series is of crucial importance for the Team Bruichladdich. After their superb podium finish in the Algarve 1000 kms, Tim Greaves, Karim Ojjeh and Thor-Christian Ebbesvik are heading for Budapest with a double objective in mind: the best possible result and the top 3 in the LM P2 overall classification.
The Hungaroring 1000 kms is the first time that the Le Mans Series has pitched its tent in Hungary. The circuit is already part of the history of motor sport, as since 1986 it has hosted the Formula 1 Grand Prix, the first to be held in an Eastern European country.
The Hungaroring is a very tight circuit with only one place where overtaking is possible - at the end of the long pits straight. Thus, achieving a good position on the grid in qualifying will be very important as passing is virtually impossible except in the above-mentioned section. Karim Ojjeh, though, has every confidence on the capacities of the Team Bruichladdich's red and white Zytek. "It's a very good car that generates a lot of downforce so we should feel at home on the circuit. It should not be forgotten that some of our main rivals like RML and the Pescarolos have already raced on this track. It'll be a grande première for all the other LM P2 teams. We'll have to watch out for the Strakka Racing HPD, and I wouldn't be surprised to see Olivier Pla (Quifel-ASM team) in front of the Oak Racing Pescarolos."
Once again the gaps between the LM P2 category contenders will be very small on the Hungarian roller-coaster. It will be a ding-dong battle as at Le Castellet, Spa and Portimao, and the team's superb second place in Portugal also reassured Greaves and Ojjeh about the health of their team-mate, Ebbesvik, who has fully recovered from his Spa injuries. The Norwegian shares Ojjeh's analysis: "At one moment or another we're going to find ourselves caught up in traffic in the Hungaroring 1000 kms. We'll have to qualify near the front and pull off perfect overtaking manoeuvres." It is also his first taste of the Hungarian track and he's tackling the challenge full of optimism: "It's a quick circuit with corners which provide a good rhythm, and I love that!"
Given the very high level of competitiveness in LM P2, strategy will play a vital role in helping the Team Bruichladdich achieve its objectives: 'We have to be on the podium and I think we can do it as well as getting into the top three in the overall classification," sums up Ebbesvik. "We pulled off a good coup in the Algarve and we're not going to stop there!"
"We'll do the maximum in terms of race strategy," adds Ojjeh. "We've already got a few ideas in this area, but that's our little secret for the moment!" A tricky circuit, a no-holds-barred scrap and high stakes to play for mean that the Hungaroring 1000 kms will be a crucial rendezvous for the Team Bruichladdich. Tim Greaves, Karim Ojjeh and Thor-Christian Ebbesvik are determined to capitalize on their Portuguese podium finish and continue in the same vein!
