Team Modena on Course for Strong Home Event
The Donington Park circuit this weekend (August 26th and 27th) hosts the next round of the Le Mans Series, and for UK-based Team Modena their home round of the competitive sportscar series is a great opportunity to demonstrate the form which saw them take a top ten finish at Le Mans in June. Running in the LMGT1 class, the distinctive Team Modena Aston Martin DBR9 will be driven by a trio of rapid and experienced racers, with Britons Peter Hardman and Christian Vann partnered by rapid Spaniard Antonio Garcia.
Sunday's 1000km race sees Team Modena taking on some of the most experienced sportscar teams around, with their Aston Martin contesting the leading class for GT cars. At the Le Mans 24-Hours the team brought their car home ninth overall, and hopes are high for a strong result this weekend.
"The circuit should be good for us, "says Hardman, "smooth tracks seem to really suit the Aston Martin. I'm looking forward to it, Donington is a very technical track, but we learnt a lot from the race at the Nurburgring last month and if we have the car working well then we can be really quick. I think we can have a really strong weekend."
"Donington Park should be good," agrees Garcia. "We need to see how our rivals do, but the circuit is smooth and we should be in a strong position, I just want the weather to be either dry or wet - not in between! We're looking for a good result as it is the home race for the team."
"It's our home event," says team CEO Graham Schultz, "so we are aiming to put on a good show. It's an important race for us as we have 120 guests coming along, which is part of our long term plan to really expand the horizons of GT racing."
The 2.5-mile Donington Park circuit is in the East Midlands of the UK, the international standard circuit having hosted Formula One in the past. The track action starts on Saturday 26th of August with Free Practice and Qualifying, with the 1000km race scheduled for 12.30pm on Sunday.
