Convers Team confirms Aston Martin for Silverstone
The Convers Team today confirms that it will run an Aston Martin DBR9 in the Le Mans Endurance Series race at Silverstone on Saturday, August 13. Russian driver Nikolay Fomenko and Briton Darren Turner will drive the car, which will be run in the now familiar colours of the Conversbank.
Christophe Bouchut and Alexey Vasiliev, who currently lie sixth in the GT1 drivers' standings, two points off the leaders after two rounds, will share the team's Ferrari 550 Maranello which has already achieved podium finishes in each race.
The Aston Martin has won two major endurance races during its debut season, including the Sebring 12-hours in March and the Tourist Trophy at Silverstone in May. Turner drove the car to victory at Sebring, and finished second at Silverstone.
"This is a big race for our team, with the introduction of a new, and very prestigious, car," said Cirtek team owner Rob Schirle. "Our goal this year has been to win the LMES drivers' championship, and running the second car will help Alexey and Christophe to that end. Our goal is for a 1-2 finish, and with top quality drivers and the Aston Martin, I believe we have given ourselves the best chance to do so."
The race will last for 1000km, or six hours whichever comes first, and will take place at Silverstone on Saturday, August 13.
