First race for "French" Audi R8

LMES: Things are getting serious for Audi PlayStation Team Oreca next Sunday in the opening round of the Le Mans Endurance Series (LMES) at Spa-Francorchamps (Belgium): Following intensive testing, Hugues de Chaunac's team will race their Audi R8 for the first time on April 17. Supported by Audi France, Team Oreca will contest the entire LMES season. The first round of the series, however, will also serve as a test race for the Le Mans 24 Hours on June 18/19. At Spa, Jean-Marc Gounon and Stéphane Ortelli will be at the wheel of the "French" R8. 50 cars have been entered for the endurance classic which will start on Sunday at 12 a.m.

SEAT scores points in WTCC opener

WTCC: The SEAT factory team scored points in both opening rounds of the new FIA World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) at Monza in Italy. Rickard Rydell finished 8th in the first heat, thus allowing him to start the second race from pole position. But after contact with another car, his race ended as early as on lap two. Best placed SEAT driver in race two was Jordi Gené in 6th place. Peter Terting finished his first race for the SEAT factory team in 11th position. In the second heat, a drive-through penalty was imposed against the young German for cutting a chicane.

Additional weight slows down SEAT in Great Britain

BTCC: The SEAT Toledo Cupra touring cars prepared according to the international Super 2000 regulations had no chance against the BTCC cars in the opening rounds of the British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) at Donington. SEAT scored more BTCC victories than any body else last year and as a consequence the basis weight for Super 2000 cars was raised for this season. This made life very difficult for the SEAT drivers at Donington. Best result of the day was fifth place for Jason Plato in the second race. In the third heat, the SEAT driver took the lead thanks to a perfect start, but he was able to defend his position for just four laps before dropping to sixth place.

Short race after strong qualifying performance

FIA-GT: 40,000 spectators attended an exciting season opener of the FIA GT Championship at Monza (Italy), which, however was of short duration for Team Reiter Engineering's Lamborghini Murciélago R-GT: After a strong qualifying performance (7th place) the race ended prematurely for Peter Kox and Norman Simon just before the first-hour mark due to a collision.
