Both Abt-Audi TT-Rs starting from the top ten in 24 Hour race
The Team Abt Sportsline has got itself a favourable starting position for the 24 Hour race at the Nürburgring: both Abt-Audi TT-Rs, that are racing with support from the quattro GmbH, completed two entirely trouble-free qualifying sessions on Friday and will be starting the race from eighth and ninth place.
The fastest time of the Abt team was set by Marco Werner on his debut with the over 450 hp strong touring car, based on the championship-winning car of the DTM. Mattias Ekström set the fastest time with the TT-R under starting number seven. The race will be starting on Saturday at 15.00 h, the German sports TV-channel DSF will be broadcasting live from the Nürburgring for more than ten hours.
Quotes after qualifying
Kris Nissen (Abt-Audi TT-R #8, 8th place):
"It is nice being back at the Abt team. The entire crew can be proud of the two cars. Everyone is working very professionally without allowing themselves a break. We, as the drivers, will try and do everything to contribute to a successful weekend."
Karl Wendlinger (Abt-Audi TT-R #8, 8th place):
"The Nordschleife is one big challenge. It is a great thing that this race exists and that so many fans and competitors are excited about it. And once more, it has shown that our TT-R is quick and at home at nearly every race track."
Marco Werner (Abt-Audi TT-R #8, 8th place):
"Although this was my first day driving a TT-R, I was feeling safe right away. To be honest, I had expected it to be more difficult to get used to the car, but now, probably, the 1000 laps I have driven on the Nordschleife during my career are paying off."
Christian Abt (Abt-Audi TT-R #7, 9th place):
"The grid position for a 24 Hour race is absolutely secondary. We have been working well and got ourselves a good position to start from. Now, we will try to find the best possible strategy and then, it is just about one thing: making it through all the way."
Frank Biela (Abt-Audi TT-R #7, 9th place):
"Driving in Germany again is nice, and especially so at the Nordschleife. I am feeling well in the TT-R, we have made all the preparations and we have optimised all the details for the race."
Mattias Ekström (Abt-Audi TT-R #7, 9th place):
"Today, I would have liked to do more than three laps, in order to get even more experience on the Nordschleife. The difference with the DTM is huge: here, the track is very narrow and bumpy and is almost like a rally track. I quite like that."
Hans-Jürgen Abt (team director):
"So far, I am very happy. Our DTM and sports car drivers have become a small family. They are all helping each other and everybody is working on the success together. We are looking forward to the 24-hour race and we will be providing a great show for the great fans along the track."
