Once again, he was on top. Alain Prost won the first clash of the motor racing legends at the Norisring. On Friday evening, the four-time Formula One World Champion ('85, '86, '89 and '93) defeated Johnny Cecotto, Nigel Mansell, Emerson Fittipaldi, Jody Scheckter and Mick Doohan in the practice session for the 'Race of Legends' by setting a fastest lap time of 0:50.669 minutes, at the 2.3-kilometre Norisring.

"It will be great to battle it out with some of my old rivals, in DTM cars," said Prost who looks forward to the 'Race of Legends' taking place on Saturday at 18:55hrs local time (17:55hrs GMT), covered live by the ARD.

On Friday, the six World Champions had the chance of testing a DTM car of every DTM manufacturer: Audi, Mercedes-Benz and Opel. "The DTM cars handle nearly like Formula One racers," said Prost. "Good engines, good brakes - a great experience."

In the race on Saturday, the Legends will contest three five-minute stints while battling for valuable seconds or fractions of a second. Just as it was the case in the test, every driver will do a stint in a car of every brand involved in DTM. The first placed driver of a stint will score six points, the runner-up five points - and so on.

The 'Race of Legends' is held in aid of charity institutions. Altogether, a total of €500,000 will be donated to selected charity organisations. Nigel Mansell is delighted with the idea. "I'd like to congratulate DTM and the organisers. It has been a fantastic idea to organise such a charity race. We will enjoy it and provide the motor racing enthusiasts with a great show," said the 1992 Formula One World Champion.
