From Monday till Wednesday, the team led by Opel motorsport director Volker Strycek, tested at the Circuit Catalunya near the Spanish city of Barcelona. The test included both a further-developed Opel Vectra GTS V8 designated to compete in this year's DTM, as well as a car that was used last year. The cars were driven by French driver, Laurent Aiello, and German Manuel Reuter, two of this year's four Opel works-drivers.
In rainy conditions, the focus was on the continuing development of the overall package "DTM-Vectra 2005". The emphasis was not only on engine, gearbox and suspension, but also cooling and aerodynamics. The DTM-Vectra in 2004-spec was used as a reference car.
Volker Strycek (Opel motorsport director):
"Unfortunately the weather did not suit us during this test too well. Changing weather conditions and the new track surface didn't make things particularly easy for us. Nevertheless, we succeeded in completing our programme and we acquired a huge amount of valuable data."
"This was a good test: I have been driving the new car for the first time. I felt at ease right away and I immediately found my way. In spite of the rain and the slippery track, we have completed our programme."
