The Opel Performance Center GmbH (OPC), responsible for all motorsport activities of the car manufacturer from Rüsselsheim, has attracted Wiet Huidekoper as a technical director for the involvement in the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters (DTM). With immediate effect, the Dutchman is taking on the technical direction of the DTM project, being responsible for development, construction and preparation of the Opel Astra V8 Coupés.

"Signing Wiet Huidekoper is a significant part of the comprehensive restructuring of our DTM-involvement", says Volker Strycek, Opel motorsport director and managing director of the OPC. "His experience will help us significantly to make our DTM-programme more efficient and more effective."

49-year old Wiet Huidekoper, who has been mainly living in the United Kingdom since 1979, worked for race car constructors Royale and Reynard in the 1980s and was notably invovled in touring car and sports car development at Chrysler, Nissan and Porsche with his own engineering agency in the 1990s. Most recently, Wiet Huidekoper led the Formula Nissan project at race car manufacturer Dallara.

"For me, the technical responsibility for Opel's DTM-project is a major challenge", says Wiet Huidekoper. "This task is very attractive for me as an engineer, and I will do everything to be successful with Opel in the very demanding, high-class DTM."
