Marcel Fässler was the first Opel works-driver to get his new race car for the 2005 season. The Opel team used the four-day ITR test session at the Italian circuit of Mugello, north of Florence, for the initial outing of the new Opel Vectra GTS V8 in the livery of GMAC.

Marcel Fässler:

"The first laps in a new race car are always something special. It is obvious, that you can't push a new car to its limits on its roll-out."

In addition to Swiss driver Fässler, Germans Heinz-Harald Frentzen and Manuel Reuter were also involved in the test session, as was the test car for 2005. Due to illness, Laurent Aiello wasn't able to take part.

During the test, the focus was on the relation of aerodynamic and mechanical balance. The circuit of Mugello with its medium-fast and fast corners offers very good opportunities for such tests.

Ernst Moser (technical manager):

"From a technical point of view, our cars ran without trouble, we were able to do all the things that we had planned in our test programme. Generally, I am satisfied with the performance. Although, the times can only be compared with those of the other competitors at the season opener in Hockenheim, because only there, everybody will really put their cards on the table."

Heinz-Harald Frentzen:

"The new car is easier to drive. Some other positive aspects can be seen as well. But there are still points that we will have to optimise before the start of the season."
