At the 3.629 kilometres long sprint track of the Nürburgring, the Opel works-teams will be starting onto the second half of the current DTM-season. At the weekend from July 30 till August 1, the Eifel will be hosting the sixth season round of Europe's premier touring car series.
Especially for the OPC Team Phoenix (Laurent Aiello, Marcel Fässler and Peter Dumbreck), the race is significant, as the team led by Ernst Moser is located in Meuspath, just across the road behind the main grand stand. The OPC Team Holzer (Heinz-Harald Frentzen, Timo Scheider and Manuel Reuter) and the OPC Euroteam (Jeroen Bleekemolen) will also be present.
Opel motorsport director Volker Strycek: "We are well prepared"
After a summer break of almost five weeks, the upcoming race is also being eagerly awaited by the fans. In pre-sale, more tickets were ordered than ever before for a DTM-race at the Nürburgring.
Opel motorsport director Volker Strycek says: "After we returned from fascinating Shanghai, we immediately started preparations for the race at the Nürburgring. We have done some extensive testing and we will be so well prepared in the Eifel, that we are aiming for a podium finish. And the pre-sale figures are an additional motivation."
Opel works-driver Timo Scheider is also excited when talking about the Nürburgring. "I am really looking forward to the race there. Although I am now living in Austria, the Nürburgring still remains my home circuit. Another nice thing is that at the Nürburgring, my fan club will be there again in its full strength. The track normally suits us and, to be honest, I think it is about time for my first podium finish!"
French Opel works-driver Laurent Aiello also has fond memories of the traditional track in the Eifel. "Of course, the DTM-race at the Nürburgring is the home round for my team, that is only a stone's throw away from the track. On top of that, there are always many Opel-fans there who will hopefully support us."
