Two Debuts: DTM at Night, World Championship Boxing Fight
During the seventh round at the Nürburgring this weekend, the 2003 DTM will present two premiere: For the first time, the single-lap qualifying for Super Pole will be held at night. In addition, there will be the World Championship boxing fight (WBC) between defending champion Markus Beyer and Danny Green close to the paddock on Saturday night.
The programme: On Friday evening at 10:00 p.m., an additional Free Practice gives the DTM drivers the opportunity to get used to driving at night on an illuminated track. On Saturday at 01:05 p.m., the qualifying takes place as usual, however, it will last for 45 instead of 25 minutes.
The ten fastest drivers will take part in the single-lap qualifying at night. At 10:00 p.m., there will be an additional 15-minute warm-up, and at 10:25 p.m. the ten fastest of the afternoon qualifying session will fight for Super Pole. Afterwards, the super middleweight fight will start in a tent near the paddock. During the boxers’ entry German popstar Jeanette Biedermann will present the popular DTM song “Right now”. On Sunday, the live performance of the German girl group “No Angels” will be another attraction of the event.
Competitive and international DTM: Prior to the year’s last four rounds with 40 points still to be scored, the first six drivers of the overall ranking representing all three brands and six nations are within 20 points: 1, Bernd Schneider (GER) Vodafone AMG-Mercedes, 43 points; 2, Christijan Albers (NED) ExpressService AMG-Mercedes, 40; 3, Marcel Fässler (SUI) AMG-Mercedes, 34; 4. Peter Dumbreck (GBR) Opel Astra V8 Coupé, 26; 5, Jean Alesi (FRA) AMG-Mercedes, 25; 6, Mattias Ekström (SWE) Abt-Audi TT-R, 23.
Bernd Schneider, overall leader: "I’m looking forward to the Nürburgring. The single-lap qualifying at night and the boxing fight promise to be very exciting and make this event a very rare experience for our fans. Of course, I will attend the No Angels concert as I’m a fan of this group."
