Timo Scheider obtained the fourth best time in the Opel Vectra GTS V8, of OPC Team Holzer, in the individually timed laps for the fifth round of the DTM. Thus Opel starts for the second time consecutively, and for the third time this season, on the second row of the grid. The 25 year old factory driver obtained his second best result of the season in the individually timed laps and missed his own best -- third on the grid at Estoril -- only scarcely.
Volker Strycek Opel motor sport boss:
"Timo's achievement is ver impressive -- congratulations on starting from the second row. His qualifying was convincing and his super pole lap error free. Unfortunately we did not succeed in repeating the result of four cars in the top ten, as at the Lausitzring. We cannot be happy with the other grid positions and we will have to concentrate on an intelligent race strategy."
Timo Scheider (OPC Team Holzer) 48.855, 4th
"Simply class! Timed training was good. In the individual timed laps I was disturbed by the red flag and the break in concentration. Afterwards I drove very aggressively in order to keep the tyre temperature -- everything just worked."
Manuel Reuter (OPC Team Holzer) 48.994, 11th
"After my first two runs I'm disappointed I missed the super pole by only around 17 thousands of a second. Because in free training this morning we were still in the best ten."
Laurent Aiello (OPC Team Phoenix) 49.042, 12th
"The distance to pole is too big. We have proved in the past that we are very competitive in race trim."
Peter Dumbreck (OPC Team Phoenix) 49.104, 15th
"Having begun the weekend so well, we were simply not fast enough in my two runs. When applying the brakes we lose too much time."
Marcel Fässler (OPC Team Phoenix) 49.107, 16th
"We undertook two runs and at first we were in the top ten but then it was simply not enough any more."
Heinz-Harald Frenzen (OPC Team Holzer) 49.448, 20th
"My car was improved since free training but unfortunately I could not convert it into a result. In my second run the wiring between the steering wheel and the car was damaged, and in turn switched the ignition off."
Jeroen Bleekemolen (OPC Euroteam) 49.699, 21st
"I got the maximum from the year old car in my two runs. This time it simply wouldn't go any faster."
