Paffett picks up a further three points at the Norisring
British driver Gary Paffett picked up points for the fourth race in succession during Round Four of the DTM which saw him take to the streets of the historic Norisring circuit in Nuremberg, Germany.
Following a tightly contested qualifying session, Paffett lined up his Salzgitter Mercedes-Benz AMG on the fourth row of the grid, in seventh position.
Paffett made a good start to the race, immediately making up one position when fourth placed driver Martin Tomczyk stalled on the grid. Timo Scheider attempted to pass Paffett on the first lap but ran wide and Paffett was able to maintain sixth place.
For the next few laps, Paffett was locked in a battle with Scheider, while also keeping his sights on chasing down fifth placed driver Oliver Jarvis.
On lap seven, Ralf Schumacher's drive through penalty for a jump start promoted Paffett to fifth place.
After the first round of pitstops, Paffett was running strong in fifth position and fought off continuing attempts from Scheider. Scheider eventually managed to take fifth place after pitting early and jumping Paffett in the second round of pitstops.
Paffett fought hard to catch and re-pass Scheider but having suffered from oversteer throughout the race he was lapping at a tenth of a second slower that the front runners and lacking the pace needed to attack.
During the final few laps of the race, Paffett held off an attack from Alexandre Premat and crossed the line in sixth position, collecting three Championship points.
"I struggled with understeer throughout the race and lacked a bit of overall speed, meaning I was not able to attack. There is now a five week break before the next race so I will be working closely with the engineers to develop the car and put us in a strong position for the next race at the Nurburgring;" said Paffett
"I had a fantastic start to the season, winning the first race in Hockenheim and while I have scored points at every race this season, meaning I am now fourth in the Championship, my focus is to win more races and achieve regular podiums so that I can start challenging Bruno Spengler for the title;" continued Paffett.
Today's result puts Paffett fourth in the Championship with 19 points, and six races to go in the 2010 season, while Paffett's team - Salzgitter Mercedes-Benz AMG - currently lead the team ranking with 51 points.
Gary Paffett will head to the Nurburgring for Round 5 of the Championship on the 8th August.
