During the fifth round of the DTM (Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters), spectators at the Norisring and in front of the television screens can expect Abt Sportsline to catch up on Sunday. In Nuremberg, at the home round of the team from the Allgäu, Mattias Ekström and German touring car champion Laurent Aiello will be starting from the third row into the race that will last 72 laps.
Christian Abt really had bad luck: during the Super Pole, he was on his way to scoring a fastest time, but then he had to abandon his flying lap because of a problem with the fuel pump. The driver from Kempten will now be starting from tenth place on the grid ahead of his team-mate Martin Tomczyk. On Sunday, the start of the race is at 14.00 h, ARD is broadcasting live.
Quotes after qualifying
Mattias Ekström (Super Pole, 49.378 sec., 5th place):
"I am happy with my performance: I didn't take too many risks and I didn't make any mistakes. But either there is a short-cut here at the Norisring that I don't know yet, or we have to improve massively."
Laurent Aiello (Super Pole, 49.563 sec., 6th place):
"For my lap during the Super Pole, I picked the only set of tyres this weekend that didn't work properly. It would have been better had I used this set in free practice. I am a little disappointed with sixth place. Now, it will be even more difficult for us to race the guys from Mercedes."
Christian Abt (Super Pole, 1.00.780 min., 10th place):
"Actually, the fuel pump is a part that doesn't break during the entire season. So, you need a lot of bad luck for it to happen right during the Super Pole. Now, I need a good start, and then I will fight."
Martin Tomczyk (49.377 sec., 11th place):
"During my second attempt in qualifying, I had other cars in front of me and I braked a little bit too early before the hairpins. Of course, it will be difficult from eleventh place, but with its hairpins, the Norisring has relatively good opportunities for overtaking. So, anything can still happen in the race."
Karl Wendlinger (49.464 sec., 14th place):
"At a track where the entire field is within one second, you can't make the slightest mistake. Unfortunately, I had a little error under braking during my second attempt in qualifying, and that was it for my chance to make it into the Super Pole."
Peter Terting (49.745 sec., 21st place):
"Incredible, how close things are in the DTM: I am not even one second down on the front runners, and still, I am last. But I will certainly not remain there. That much, I can already promise our many fans on the grand stands."
Hans-Jürgen Abt (team principal):
"For us, the Norisring round is an exceptional race. Now, we will be giving everything for 72 laps in order to make it something special in spite of our starting positions, that certainly aren't optimal. We have a fast car, strong drivers with good condition and the support of the many Abt and Audi fans on the grand stands."
