The DTM parade, representing a part of the DTM launch taking place on 5th April 2005, will be held on a new route. Due to necessary reconstruction works on Hamburg's 'Jungfernstieg', the city of Hamburg and ITR e.V. have jointly opted for a new and extended parade route.
Starting at the Rathausmarkt, the one-hour demonstration tour performed by the DTM touring cars of Audi, Mercedes-Benz, MG and Opel will roll along the 'Binnenalster', cross the 'Lombardsbrücke' and pass the 'Hotel Vierjahreszeiten' to end at the 'Gänsemarkt'. There, the field will make a U-turn to return to the Rathausmarkt via the same route.
"It's just a great asset for Hamburg to have the DTM racing cars in our city," said Hamburg's Senator for Economic Affairs, Gunnar Udall. "Therefore, we have reacted to the construction works on the Jungfernstieg by changing the route in close cooperation with the authority of the interior. Now, the new, extended route offers the enthusiasts even more opportunities of witnessing the DTM cars."
The drivers also look forward to the fans and the parade in the Hanseatic City. The reigning DTM Champion, Matthias Ekström (Audi), is just delighted to return to the Alster. "Last year's season also started in Hamburg," says Ekström, "and it turned out to be a fantastic season for me and the Audi team. I regard it as a good omen that the 2005 season will be launched at the same location."
Two-time Formula One World Champion Mika Häkkinen (Mercedes-Benz) is anxious to find out what will be going on, in Hamburg. "Those of my team-mates, who have been there last year, have already told me at length of the 2004 launch," reveals the Finn. "Therefore, I'm looking forward to the unique atmosphere, the fans and Hamburg."
Opel ace Laurent Aiello recalls: "Last year's DTM launch in Hamburg already turned out to be a true season highlight. This city and its fans are the perfect location to start the new season."
