Hockenheim - With immediate effect, Sunday morning will provide a new attraction for the DTM fans. At Hockenheim on Sunday, all participants of the traditional pit walk can watch the DTM teams from up close during their pit stop practice for the first time.
At every one of the ten rounds of the most popular international touring car series, the tyre change crews have an early wake-up call. From 8.55 hrs till 9.25 hrs, pit stops are being practices, in the presence of spectators.
Every visitor with a paddock ticket can be in the front row when the total of eleven cars will be rolled in for tyre changes. For safety reasons, the DTM cars will be pushed for the tyre changes, the engines remain switched off.
“With this pit stop practice, we really are providing an interesting novelty for our fans. Thus, the spectators get a close view of the work by the mechanics and they can experience real racing atmosphere,” says Hans Werner Aufrecht, chairman of the board of DTM rights-holder and promoter ITR e.V. “Moreover, the autograph sessions on Saturday and Sunday provide the opportunity to meet the drivers in person.”
Every two-car team of the three premium car manufacturers Audi, BMW and Mercedes involved in the DTM is running one car for this pit stop practice. The DTM cars get a full service in a few seconds.
This novelty not only provides additional value for the fans, but also gives the team a welcome opportunity to practice. After all, pit stops are very important in the DTM races, because the margins in the extremely close field are often very small. Thus, a perfect tyre change can very well decide about victory or defeat.
This year, pit stop practice isn’t the only new element for the fans. Visitors at the race track can also look forward to two autograph sessions with all 22 drivers and another concert. This season, the drivers will be available to sign autographs for the fans during the pit walk in the pit lane on Saturday at 13.30 hrs and at the DTM shop near the Showtruck on Sunday at 10.30 hrs.
Next to the ARD Chartshow on Sunday, during which at Hockenheim on Sunday at 11.45 hrs Tim Bendzko will be presenting the 2013 DTM song ’Ich steh nicht mehr still’ for the first time live, there is another concert on Saturday at 13.40 hrs. During the season opener at Hockenheim, the band Black Cat Bone will be on stage.
