Jamie Green will start as second from the first row
Jamie Green (Salzgitter AMG Mercedes C-Class) will start the third round of the 2008 DTM in Mugello, Italy on Sunday from the first row of the grid. In Saturday's exciting qualifying, Jamie held the best time with a 1m43.401 until the closing seconds when he was edged out by Timo Scheider (Audi/1:43.079). Green will start from second place tomorrow.
All four Mercedes-Benz C-Class cars qualified among the top seven within 0.178sec: Paul Di Resta (AMG Mercedes C-Class) was fifth with a 1m43.487 ahead of Bruno Spengler (Mercedes-Benz Bank AMG C-Class) with a 1m43.579 and Bernd Schneider (Genuine Parts AMG Mercedes C-Class) with the same time. Spengler posted his time earlier than his team mate and was therefore ranked ahead of Schneider.
Ralf Schumacher (Trilux AMG Mercedes C-Class) will start his third DTM race from 13th position of the grid. With his time of 1m44.735 he would have been the best Mercedes-Benz driver in last July's DTM qualifying in Mugello.
Qualifying, part 1: Jamie Green was second with a 1m43.758 and the best C-Class driver. Ralf Schumacher ended up 13th with a 1m44.761 and made it to the next round for the second time after Oschersleben two weeks ago. Maro Engel (JungeSterne AMG Mercedes C-Class) was 14th with a 1m44.838 and qualified for the second part for the first time. Gary Paffett (stern AMG Mercedes C-Class), 15th with a 1m44.914 after a short off on his final run; Mathias Lauda (Pixum AMG Mercedes C-Class), 17th with a 1m45.644; Susie Stoddart (TV Spielfilm AMG Mercedes C-Class), 19th with a 1m46.258; all three did not make it to the second round.
Qualifying, part 2: Paul Di Resta was the best Mercedes-Benz driver with a 1m43.481 in third place. Ralf Schumacher qualified 13th with a 1m44.735 ahead of Maro Engel with a 1m45.357. Bernd Schneider who ended up eighth with a 1m43.781 was less than four tenths of a second behind the fastest Mattias Ekstroem (Audi) with a 1m43.396.
Jamie Green (2008 Salzgitter AMG Mercedes C-Class) second (1:43.401): "A good qualifying. I was able to improve throughout, and I am happy to be on the front row for the first time after my pole position in Zandvoort on 2nd September 2006. I thank my team; to start second on the grid is a reward for their hard work during the last weeks."
Paul Di Resta (2008 AMG Mercedes C-Class) fifth (1:43.487): "Set- up and balance were ok and therefore I am quite satisfied with fifth place. In the race I want to fight for a podium finish."
Bruno Spengler (2008 Mercedes-Benz Bank AMG C-Class) sixth (1:43.579): "I am not happy with sixth place; a better result was definitely possible. Unfortunately, I made a mistake on my fastest lap. However, with a good start anything can be possible tomorrow."
Bernd Schneider (2008 Genuine Parts AMG Mercedes C-Class) 1:43.579 (seventh): "Compared to the first two races this season I was able to improve and to qualify for the hard fought top eight. However, I was not able to get the maximum out of my car which is a shame particularly because with two tenths less I would start on the front row."
Ralf Schumacher (2007 Trilux AMG Mercedes C-Class) 13th (1:44.735): "My team and I were able to improve since yesterday. 13th place is more than I had expected in the beginning. Our team did a great job which is also shown by my team mate Maro Engel's 14th grid position."
Maro Engel (2007 JungeSterne AMG Mercedes C-Class) 14th (1:45.357): "This was not bad today. Our team worked well and I am happy to be in the second round of qualifying. I want to build upon this result tomorrow."
Gary Paffett (2007 stern AMG Mercedes C-Class) 15th (1:44.914): "I am not happy at all. In the tests yesterday and this morning's Free Practice everything was better, but in qualifying the balance of my car was not ok anymore. Tomorrow is another day."
Mathias Lauda (2007 Pixum AMG Mercedes C-Class) 17th (1:45.644): "I am very disappointed. I made many small mistakes and didn't manage to put together a quick lap."
Susie Stoddart (2007 TV-Spielfilm AMG Mercedes C-Class) 19th (1:46.258): "I don't have any idea what went wrong. The car ran well and I like the circuit. In the race I want to achieve a better result."
Norbert Haug, Vice President Mercedes-Benz Motorsport: "A step into the right direction and a good team performance with all four current C-Class cars in positions two to seven on the first four rows. Ralf Schumacher leads the field of our last year's cars from 13th position -- not bad for a DTM rookie in his third race."
