Lausitz DTM: Molina grabs pole position

Audi’s Miguel Molina will start today’s round three of the DTM from pole position after a frantic qualifying session at Lausitz.

Jamie Green started the ball rolling with 1m17.829s, which was briefly topped by Audi colleague Mattias Ekstrom’s 1m17.802s. Green retook the top spot with 1m17.559s, before Molina hit lowered the bar to 1m17.438s and BMW’s Marco Wittmann moved up to P3.

On the second runs, Mercedes young gun Pascal Wehrlein was an early improver, jumping up to third, just as the man he demoted, Wittmann, took the gravel.

Mortara then leapt up to third, with Ekstrom improving back to fourth just before he spun.

Green couldn’t top Molina on his final run, and had to settle for second, ahead of Mortara, Ekstrom, Wehrlein and Wittmann.

Robert Wickens took seventh, with Maxime Martin, Tom Blomqvist and Paul Di Resta completing a top 10 separated by under half a second.
