Peter Dumbreck (OPC Team Phoenix) starts the tenth race of the DTM at Hockenheim from gird position two. With this, Opel starts a race from the first row for the second consecutive time, after Timo Scheider (OPC Team Phoenix) was on pole position at Zandvoort. On a wet track, Dumbreck succeeded in making it into the super-pole qualifying for the tenth time this season.
In his individual timed lap the Scot risked difficult conditions and obtained his best qualifying result of the season. With Alain Menu and Manuel Reuter (OPC Team Holzer) in sixth and tenth and Timo Scheider seventh, four Opel drivers are in the top ten. Reuter was temporarily first in the first session but had an accident that damaged his car.
Volker Strycek , Opel motorsport director:
"With grid position two we again we have a very good starting point for the race. Many congratulations to Peter Dumbreck, who reached the super-pole for the tenth time in ten races. Our good achievements, which we have shown so far, round off with four Opels in the first five rows on the grid. In any case, it was once again a nerve-wracking qualifying."
Peter Dumbreck (OPC Team Phoenix), 2nd, 1:48.523
"It was good in the first session until the red flag spoiled my best lap. In the super-pole I took a big risk and nearly spun when I went over the kerb. Position two is great!"
Alain Menu (OPC Team Holzer), 6th, 1:49.187
"The visibility was extremely bad in first qualifying but it was good enough for the fifth best time. In the individual timed lap I had hardly any grip but the result is good."
Timo Scheider (OPC Team Phoenix), 7th, 1:49.192
"In the case of the red flag period in first qualifying I had already used my available laps, so I was somewhat nervous. I made it and the following super-pole lap was not so bad."
Manuel Reuter (OPC Team Holzer), 10th, no time
"Many compliments to our team engineers, who set up the car beautifully. Unfortunately I came off when I started my second attempt and couldn't go the distance."
Jeroen Bleekemolen (OPC Euroteam), 13th, 1:50.863
"The track got faster in the last laps but after the red flag there were no more improvements to be made. Altogether we are well set up for the rain."
Joachim Winkelhock (OPC Euroteam), 20th, 1:53.040
"I only had one attempt. The conditions were very difficult."
