Racing cars parade around the Inner Alster Lake -- DTM pulls up in Hamburg
Nothing comparable has ever happened in Hamburg before: DTM will present a full speed season opening in Hamburg on March 30th, featuring a parade of spectacular touring cars by Audi, Mercedes-Benz and Opel right at the heart of Hamburg. For one hour, the streets around Inner Alster Lake will become a race circuit, when DTM stars present their brand new, roughly 470 HP strong bolids for the 2004 season.
Another highlight will be the chance to drive in original DTM cars which have especially been equipped with additional passenger seats. As a special attraction for the public at the historic market place, lucky visitors can win a ticket for a hot ride side by side with one of the DTM stars.
"It's always a very special atmosphere when racing cars drive through a city," says DTM novice Heinz-Harald Frentzen, who will be at the starting line in an Opel Vectra for Opel: "I know this from the Formula 1 races in Monaco, and I am certain that this will be a very special experience for the public in Hamburg, too."
Current DTM champion Bernd Schneider (Mercedes-Benz) says: "We already had great DTM events with big audiences off the racetrack in the past. But what we are planning to do in Hamburg is a real heyday, and it will certainly be unique."
Audi shooting star Mattias Ekström adds: "Driving through such a big town with a new Audi A4 DTM will be magnificent. People in Hamburg will be presented with an unforgettable show. And I'm also hoping for some fans from Sweden to come -- after all, Hamburg is not too far away from Sweden, my home."
Everyone who comes will be richly rewarded: Apart from driving specials, a diversified entertainment programme on the historic market place will make the presentation a public festival, covering films, interviews and -- of course -- of course, race drivers signing autographs.
Hamburg's Head of Police, Udo Nagel, announced that he, too, will be present on March 30th: "The DTM car presentation is a big event, both for the City of Hamburg and for me. I'm also very curious about the innovations in and around the cars."
The DTM presentation in Hamburg starts the racing countdown: just over two weeks later, from 16th to 18th April, the tensely awaited season opening takes place at the Hockenheimring Baden-Württemberg.
