London, UK – Mercedes-Benz driver Gary Paffett finished fifth today at the DTM premier in Moscow.
Driving the EURONICS Mercedes AMG C-Coupé, the 2005 DTM champion was the fastest Mercedes-Benz driver qualifying seventh on the 2.555km track. Paffett had a good clean start and was able to move up a few places early on but just didn’t have the pace to run with the leaders.
He spent the majority of the race battling with Jamie Green before finally passing him with six laps to go to claim fifth. Paffett, who was the highest finishing Mercedes-Benz driver, picked up valuable championship points and now sits third in the standings with 57 points.“I am happy with the result today,” said MB Partners driver Paffett. “It was the best possible result for us as we just couldn’t find the speed all weekend. I had a pretty good battle going on with Jamie for most of the race and once I was able to pass him at the end got a nice little gap between us.
The crew did a great job during pits stops and our strategy worked out well also. We definitely need to work hard before the Nürburgring in a couple of weeks to find that extra speed, but to have finished fifth gave me vital points and helped move me to third in the standings.”
