Renger van der Zande press release
Mercedes driver Renger van der Zande wound up 13th at the end of an extremely close qualifying hour at Brands Hatch on Saturday afternoon, the venue for Round 7 of the 2011 DTM season.
The Dutchman was eliminated at the end of Q2, but ultimately finished less than three tenths of a second slower than the pole-sitter.
"I actually spoilt it myself," said van der Zande. "On my best lap I was almost fastest in Sector 1, one of the best in Sector 2, but in the last corner of Sector 3 I went too wide and lost two tenths of a second.
I had the speed but did not keep it for the whole lap, and that is the challenge. I'?m motivated for tomorrow, there are 98 laps and anything can happen."
