The 2004 DTM calendar was announced at the Essen Motor Show today and there are some changes to the circuits from this year. The series returns to previously used tracks in Portugal, the Czech Republic and Germany, while Austria, the UK and the second race at the Nürburgring have been dropped.
As usual the season will kick off at the Hockenheimring, April 18th, and the Estoril circuit in Portugal is the second race, on May 2nd. Oschersleben in Germany returns after being absent for a couple of years and the Automotodrom Brno in the Czech Republic is the other 'new' location for 2004, September 19th.
The old style DTM, before it was decommissioned in the mid nineties, raced at Brno in 1992 and at Estoril in 1996 when the series was under the name of ITC. Oschersleben was on the calendar in 2000 and '01. The A1 Ring is out of commission due to construction work and it seems Donington Park in the UK simply didn't attract enough ticket buyers.
Adria (Italy) and Zandvoort (NL) stay on the calendar as do the three other German circuits from the 2003 season: Lausitz, Norisring and the Nürburgring.
