Canadian race car driver Bruno Spengler contested his first DTM race Sunday in Hockenheim, Germany. The new Mercedes-Benz works driver qualified an impressive 6th despite driving a 2004 C-Class car.

The rookie started the 37-lap race in 6th place but his car moved before the red lights went off. At the first hairpin corner, he got hit twice by Martin Tomczyk.

Spengler was given a drive through penalty for jumping the start which cost him dearly. He returned into action and made his first mandatory pit stop. He was running in 12th place when he collided with Heinz-Harald Frentzen when fighting for a position.

The impact bent a steering arm and Bruno had to drive with the streering wheel misaligned. Despite this, he set some very competitive lap times and managed to crossed the line in 12th place just behind Allan McNish.
