Bright sunshine welcomed the DTM drivers in free practice at the Nürburgring on Saturday morning.
For Filipe Albuquerque (Audi), the start into the seventh race weekend of the most popular international touring car series couldn’t have been better. The 28-year old Portuguese set a time of 1:23.491 minutes and ended up fastest at the 3.629 kilometres long circuit variant of the Grand Prix track.
Only three thousandths of a second down, Mike Rockenfeller, the leader in the drivers’ standings, was classified second.
Marco Wittmann was the best-placed BMW driver in third place with a lap time of 1:23.554 minutes.
Five more Audi drivers followed in fourth to eighth place while Bruno Spengler (BMW), who is currently second in the points’ standings, ended up ninth. Christian Vietoris was the best-placed Mercedes-Benz driver in eleventh place. Jamie Green (Audi) completed 47 laps and covered the longest distance of all DTM drivers in free practice with 170.563 kilometres.
Starting grid positions for the race on Sunday will be determined in qualifying from 14.40 hrs. ARD is broadcasting live from 14.30 hrs onwards.
