When the 2003 DTM-season begins at Hockenheim, April 27, it is the start of the third year for Uwe Alzen in which he is a works-driver for Mercedes-Benz. The driver from Betzdorf finished runner-up in 2001, but had a rather poor season in 2002, failing to achieve his self-set goals. Now, Alzen wants to do anything to finally being able to show what he is capable of this year.
Early February, the entire Mercedes-Benz works-team was in the Austrian Montafon-region in order to prepare for the new season by means of an intense fitness training. "Now, it is non-stop until the season opener of the DTM at Hockenheim," says Alzen, who does a lot of sports in his spare time as well. "Especially for demanding races like at the Norisring or Zandvoort, being fit is very important." Another fitness week for the Mercedes-Benz-drivers is scheduled at the Spanish isle of Majorca, early March.
For 2003, attacking is the motto. "I will be giving everything in 2003 once again," says Alzen. "Already now, thinking about the season opener at Hockenheim sends shivers down my spine. And hopefully, for me, things will be better this year than last season."
