Two victories in the last two races are you sad the seasons over? Not at all, although as a race driver youd like to drive races all the time if you had your way. It was a great ending with two victories for me and the manufacturers title for Audi that we clinched in a strong final sprint. On the other hand, its good that the clocks now being reset to zero, because we want to, and will, be giving our all to be in contention in the 2015 season from the first race on.
You took home the trophy for the runner-ups spot in the championship. What moment from 2014 will you remember for a long time? Obviously, this question immediately makes everyone think of the two victories. But, actually, my fondest memory of the year is of qualifying at the Lausitzring. Thats where I was really happy with my performance and my grid position for the first time in the season. I think thats where we found the key to a perfect set-up and subsequently repeated this at Zandvoort and Hockenheim.
No more preparations for the next race. How are you going to spend the next few weeks? For starters, Im going to put my feet up on my sofa, doing nothing. Of course Ill have a few PR commitments again in the coming weeks, but I dont mind that because they include some very interesting topics. Ill just try and keep the weekends completely clear to spend time with the family.
What are you most looking forward to during the winter break? To the longest winter vacation in Switzerland and Sweden Ive ever allowed myself. I'm going to play in the snow with my family, relax in front of a fireplace at night and build lots of Lego cars in between.
And when will the adrenaline start returning to your body? It probably wont take long for the excitement about sitting in the race car again to come back. But the full adrenaline surge will only come when the eight-minute sign appears on the Hockenheim starting grid and Ill be putting on my helmet.
