2010 Formula DRIFT Pro Champion, Vaughn Gittin Jr., heads back to the Las Vegas Motor Speedway this weekend for Round 6 of the 2011 Championship, “After Dark”, to reclaim points lost early this season. Gittin is positive the Faulken team can make a comeback to gain them entry into the Top 5 by the final round of the championship.

Gittin Jr. is also gearing up to narrow down winners for his Octane Academy camp in 2012, where brave and creative individuals will have the chance to participate in an action motorsports fantasy camp created by Gittin Jr. himself, with an additional potential prize of a custom designed car by Gittin.

HOW ARE YOU FEELING ABOUT ROUND SIX “AFTER DARK” IN LAS VEGAS THIS WEEKEND?

“I’m definitely pumped for Vegas. It’s always a fun event. It’s a really late, hot one. So the challenges preparing for sleep deprivation and the heat is definitely something that is very taxing, but it’s a great challenge to get over. It’s been too long since Seattle, so I can’t wait to get back on the horse and go out there, get crazy and hopefully, get us up there on that podium this weekend.”

WHAT HAS CHANGED BETWEEN THE LAST EVENT IN SEATTLE AND THE EVEN THIS WEEKEND IN VEGAS?

“The team has definitely made some tweaks on the Mustang. We’re going to show up to Vegas with all guns blazing. We’re definitely throwing everything at it. The last couple events we’ve done a good job, but the results just haven’t been what we wanted. And this weekend we’re putting it all down and going out there. It’s going to be pretty much a checkers or wreckers scenario.”

YOU’RE CURRENTLY 9TH IN THE STANDINGS IN THE FORMULA DRIFT PRO CHAMPIONSHIP. WHAT DO YOU PLAN ON DOING BETWEEN THE EVENT THIS WEEKEND AND THE ROUND 7 “TITLE FIGHT” TO REALLY MAKE A SIGNIFICANT DIFFERENCE IN YOUR OVERALL STANDINGS?

“Right now we’re sitting in 9th overall which is definitely not where I should be or want to be, but unfortunately, the results are something we can’t control. I made a dumb mistake the first event in that really held us back. In fact we’d probably be in the top 5 had I not made that mistake. But we’ve been moving forward and gaining points throughout the rest of the year. Between the next two events I really hope to get our team at least to the top 5. That would just be awesome. And next year I get to come back in and reclaim my championship.”

AFTER BEING AT X GAMES 17 AND WITNESSING FANS SUBMIT THEIR VIDEOS FOR A CHANCE AT JOINING THE OCTANE ACADEMY, HOW DID IT FEEL TO SEE THEIR EXCITEMENT LIVE FROM THE PEOPLE WANTING TO WIN THIS WEEKEND AT OCTANE ACADEMY WITH YOU?

“It’s really incredible seeing everybody’s excitement for the Octane Academy program. Out at X Games I was watching everyone submit their videos, I’ve been watching videos online and people are really having fun with it and being creative with it. The excitement that I see in their eyes for the opportunity is definitely pumping me up for my Octane Academy camp. I’m just really looking forward to narrowing it down and picking my team and having some fun. I think about it, if it was an opportunity I was able to get when I was younger and trying to be something, man I would’ve went crazy. So it’s just really cool to see the excitement. I’m really pumped for the people that are going to win and really excited to do it. It’s gonna be a lot of fun.”
