SPARTANBURG, SC - In looking ahead to the 2001 season, CompetitionPlus.com will expand its promotional line-up to include the Pro Funny Car of John Vourous to run on the IHRA Series. Vouros, a former Top Dragster racer from Victor, NY., will carry the CompetitionPlus.com banner aboard his 2000 Firebird Funny Car at this weekend's rescheduled CARQUEST Autumn Nationals to kick off the 2001 campaign.
Vouros, a 35-year old machine shop owner, recently went through initial licensing procedures at New York International Raceway Park in Leicester, NY. In his two runs, he posted a 6.14 and followed it up with a 5.98 on his two attempts.
He is real excited about the opportunities that await him on the IHRA Summit Drag Racing Series and as a member of the now three-member CompetitionPlus.com team, which is comprised of Top Dragster racer Malinda Bertozzi and Pro Modified racer Steve Cossis.
"This is going to be a good thing for us," explains Vouros. "I am real excited about joining the IHRA tour and having CompetitionPlus.com as our major sponsor. Everything about our team is brand new and determination is one of our best attributes. The Funny Car division is a tough one to crack into, but I'm confident that we'll be up to the challenge."
None other than veteran tuner Tom Anderson, who has been instrumental in the success this season of Jim Oddy's Summit-sponsored Corvette as well as Nitro Funny Car veteran Al Hofmann, will wrench Vouros. Anderson is confident that Vouros will perform very well.
"John is a champion waiting to happen," explained Anderson. "He's went through the Frank Hawley Drag Racing School and has done what was required of him. I think he is a natural and only time will tell when he will be a champion."
CompetitionPlus.com editor Bobby Bennett knows exactly the feelings that Vouros is going through now.
Bennett adds, "If there is anyone that knows how it feels to have to prove yourself it is CompetitionPlus.com. John will do just fine and we're confident of his abilities to grow into a championship caliber Funny Car driver. We're just glad to be aboard with him and I think that he will do well in his endeavors."
In addition to CompetitionPlus.com, Vouros will feature backing from Tom Anderson Enterprises and Hunter Machine.
