Veteran Super Stock Racer Carl Holbrook Succombs To Lung Illness

LAVONIA, MI - It is with much regret that we inform you of the passing of veteran Super Stock legend Carl D. Holbrook, 65, of Livonia, Mi. He passed away on Sunday about a lengthy battle with a lung disease. A testimony to the determination of this great figure, according to son Chris, who is the defending IHRA Pro Stock champion, he outlived the doctor's forecast by nearly a year and a half.

The elder Holbrook raced Super Stock for many years and his extensive work with the Ford brand led to his nickname of "Captain Cobra Jet".

The family is requesting that contributions be made to the American Lung Association in lieu of flowers.

At a time like this, the Holbrook family sends their sincere thanks for the support of friends and family.

According to Chris, "My dad was a tough man and I'll always be proud that I was his son. I will miss him a lot and he was certainly my backbone. He's in a better place and I know that he'll have the best seat watching me."

Visitation will be on Wednesday, February 9 at the Harry J. Will Funeral Home located on 37000 Six-Mile Road in Lavonia, Mi., from 5 until 9. The time on Thursday will be from 10 AM to 1 PM. The funeral is scheduled for 1 PM on Thursday.

Emails for the family can be sent to HarleynSC@AOL.Com.
