David Price, of Norwalk, Ohio, became the first to be crowned champion in the new IHRA Super Eliminator class. Price, sponsored by Wirtgen America, Fabriweld, and David Price Metal Services, using a Mike Bos chassis, and engines from Eagle Racing Engines, started the season with an incredible 4 race winning streak and never was challenged for the points lead. This early dominance lead to the drivers in the class putting a 'bounty" on Price, but he could not be stopped.

Super Eliminator (S/E) is the newest class in IHRA racing, which includes supercharged dragster and roadsters, and nitrous "mountain motor" dragster in heads-up, professional racing. S/E will be featured on the 1999 IHRA circuit, and many teams are now building new cars to complete for the championship.
