GILLIAM, La. (AP) -- Drag racer Wayne Bailey died Saturday of injuries from a crash during qualifying Friday night for the IHRA World Finals at Red River Raceway.
Bailey's car split in half after crashing into a concrete retaining wall, said Red River general manager Dave Johnson.
Bailey, 47, of Leonard, Mich., was taken by helicopter to LSU Health Sciences Trauma Center in Shreveport. He died at 1 a.m.
