SHREVEPORT - Accident During Super Rod Qualifying Jim Lyons Uninjured is Qualifying Crash by Larry Sullivan SHREVEPORT, La. - SUMMIT FastNews - Jim Lyons, a professional truck puller from Louisville, Ky., was uninjured in a crash during qualifying in Super Rod at the IHRA World Finals at Red River Raceway Saturday afternoon. The engine in Lyons' '64 Corvette failed just before the finish line and the car went out of control when oil got under the rear tires. The car abruptly veered to the left, crossed the centerline, and hit the left retaining wall at a sharp angle. The car then bounced off the wall and spun back across the track before coming to a stop. The car was badly damaged, but Lyons got out under his own power, the safety equipment doing its job once again.
